The Bang Tao area possesses one of Phuket's longest stretch
of beach. Until a few years ago, Bang Tao was a quiet laid
back area, now it is a thriving district with luxury villas
and large hotel developments. As well it is home to one of
the finest golf course in the country.
Bang Tao's pristine white sandy beach runs for 8 km and its
turquoise water is well suited for swimming and other water
sport activities. Near the north end of the beach, there is
a smaller bay that is great for snorkeling and scuba diving,
as it is home to an underwater garden full with beautiful,
colorful corals.
It is also an area where one can enjoy the sunset as well
as fine foods and beverages prepared by local restaurants.
Neighbouring Bang Tao to the south is Surin Beach, a mostly
undeveloped area that is perhaps the least crowded beach in
Phuket making Surin Beach very natural and tranquil. The white
sand beachfront is lined with tall trees that provide a good
amount of shade from the hot sun and as such it is very much
a favorite area for the locals to picnic and enjoy fresh grilled
seafood from the seafood stalls along the beach.
Whilst Surin Beach is suitable for sunbathing, swimming is
not recommended as the undercurrent can be quite strong. That
said it is one of the few areas on Phuket that has a surf
good enough for surfing and body boarding.
